ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CONFETTI

The best types of confetti to use are water soluble, rough cut seed paper, flower petals, seeds or herbs. The water soluble confetti breaks down when exposed to moisture so it will disappear meaning small animals won't eat it and get sick. Rough cut seed paper will sproutflowers when planted (more on this later!) however it is best to check with your venue before you use sprouting confetti.

When using flower petals or seeds, make sure they’re not poisonous if ingested by animals. Rice is a popular confetti trend however it can be damaging to birds that eat it so it is best to avoid it.

SEED PAPER STATIONARY

This is very cool – Why not consider using seed paper for your Wedding stationary? The seed paper, when planted will sprout flowers! Our lovely friends at Paper Skeleton (@paperskeleton_) provide this product in all sorts of beautiful, fresh designs. We suggest that your guests would wet the paper, tear it up, plant it under a thin layer of soil then watch as your beautiful flowers grow. This is a great way for your guests to recycle their save the date or invitations and remember your wedding.

ECO FRIENDLY PAPER CHOICES

When you’re choosing your invites, check if the paper they use is FSC approved. According to the FSC, “FSC certifies forests all over the world to ensure they meet the highest environmental and social standards. Products made with wood and paper from FSC forests are marked with their ‘tick tree’ logo. When you see this logo, you can be confident that buying it won’t mean harming the world’s forests.”

Guests and suppliers travelling to your venue will probably create the most carbon footprint out of everything at your wedding. If you choose to hire suppliers that are local to your venue, this decreases the travel emissions from their travel as well as supporting small local businesses.

Booking a bus for your guests that leaves from one place is also a great way to reduce carbon emissions as all your guests arrive in one vehicle.

Local catering companies are most likely to be using farm to table produce which means it is both locally sourced and fresh! When food is bought directly from growers it needs less packaging, less transportation and less time in the fridge which is definitely more environmentally friendly!

FAVOURS

For eco friendly favours, try sourcing plantable gifts like seeds, herbs or a small succulent. Or go for edible favours however try and avoid excess plastic packaging, paper bags are better!

DONATE YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS

A good way to prevent wasting your wedding flowers is by donating them to a church, community centre or care home or you could even task someone with arranging them into smaller bouquets for your guests to take home with them. If you use potted plants they are easier for guests to take home and will last a lot longer as they haven’t been cut. A great excuse to have a themed Herb garden courtyard at your Wedding or use incredible trees or plants.
